Having sold the previous painting “View from Hwy 46” done out at this lookout, I decided to come out and paint a new one in a wild and bold color palette. I picked some of my favorites like teal, purple, and vibrant greens and started blocking in colors. I then brought the painting back to my studio to refine the colors and shapes. Sometimes, when painting outdoors en plein air, seeing the true saturation of color can be tricky which is why I like working on them in studio for final touch-ups.
This piece served as the background for my mural submission in Atascadero for “the Women’s Republic” mural. Having grown up on the Central Coast of California, artist Heather Millenaar’s series of bold landscapes captivate the hearts of many.

Super warm day in the 80s overlooking these gorgeous hills our on Highway 46, my friend and I both came out here to paint for our painting meetup.
Having sold the previous painting “View from Hwy 46” done from this same lookout, I decided to come out and paint a new one in a wild and bold color palette. I picked some of my favorites like teal, purple, and vibrant greens and started blocking in colors. I brought the piece back to my studio and fine tuned the brush strokes and range of colors. This piece served as the background for my mural submission in Atascadero for “the Women’s Republic” mural on Traffic Way and El Camino Real, California. The original painting is 16×40″.
